What is UV protection in a greenhouse and how does ot help or hurt the plants?

The "uv" that you're referring to is ultraviolet light. And most glazing on the greenhouses filter out the uv rays. There ARE greenhouses that advertise extra uv protection which contributes to prolonging the life of the greenhouse covering.

There are many discussions on the benefits of uv lights in a greenhouse since plants grown outside are used to full sunlight. The discussions continue but they still haven't reached any conclusions. No one knows exactly why or how the plants change without the uv light & greenhouse plants do just fine in production and growth in spite of the uv protection in the glazing.
